Spanish Point Guide

Spanish Point is a small seaside village on the horseshoe of Mal Bay in West Clare, about three kilometres south of Miltown Malbay on the N67. Visit Clare marks the strand as a Wild Atlantic Way discovery point and one of nine International Blue Flag beaches in the county: long sand for bathing and surfing, summer lifeguards, free parking, toilets, showers and a wildlife information point. The 2022 census counted 261 people; the local community site notes a smaller year-round core that expands when holiday homes fill. This guide is that quiet Atlantic overnight. It is not a Cliffs of Moher day-trip hub. It is not Doolin music-village framing. It is not Lahinch surf-town sold as the same stop.

One night covers the beach car park memorial, a walk on the sand and a meal in the village strip. Two nights fit if you add the 9-hole links (Spanish Point Golf Club, founded 1896) or a loop walk along the dunes and rocky northern shore Clare County Council highlights for rock-pool wildlife. A full week only works as a West Clare coastal base toward Lahinch or Doonbeg, not as a single-village resort calendar. Dining is thin beyond hotels, B and Bs and a short village strip; do not invent a second high street.

Drive the N67 coastal route; Visit Spanish Point lists Shannon Airport about forty-five minutes and the Cliffs about twenty minutes as soft drive times. Once parked at the free beach lot, stay on foot for the strand. Clare County Council posts summer bye-laws: no dogs on the beach 11:00-18:00 in season, and check beaches.ie for bathing water quality before you swim.
