Seaham Guide

Seaham is a County Durham harbour town on the Durham Heritage Coast, about six miles south of Sunderland and thirteen miles east of Durham. Visit and heritage pages frame a clifftop strip of promenade, Terrace Green, marina and beaches where sea glass still turns up, then Nose's Point further south where Dawdon Colliery once stood. The 2021 census counted 19,967 people in Seaham parish. This guide is that heritage-coast overnight: harbour walks, sea glass beach timing, and the accessible cliff path to Blast Beach. It is not a Newcastle city break. It is not a Durham cathedral weekend dressed up as coast.

One night covers the harbour strip, Tommy on Terrace Green and a Nose's Point loop. Two nights fit if you join the King Charles III England Coast Path toward Hawthorn Dene or hunt sea glass on a falling tide at Seaham Hall Beach. A full week only works if you treat Seaham as a walking base along the reclaimed Durham coast, not as a Whitby-style resort calendar. Food sits around the green, marina and chip shops; do not invent a second restaurant street.

National Trust directions put Nose's Point car park on East Cliff Road (SR7 7PS), pay-and-display, about two miles from Seaham station; National Cycle Network Route 1 also threads the town. From the A19 follow Seaham signs. Once parked, walk the firm Connecting the Coast path or drop to the harbour beach and outer breakwaters.
