Low Newton-by-the-Sea Guide

Low Newton-by-the-Sea is a National Trust fishing hamlet on the Northumberland coast, inside the civil parish of Newton-by-the-Sea. Visit Northumberland describes cream-washed cottages around an open grass square facing Embleton Bay, with Dunstanburgh Castle on the southern skyline. The 2011 census counted 212 people in the whole parish. This guide is that quiet square and beach overnight. It is not a Bamburgh or Alnwick castle-town base. It is not Seahouses harbour nightlife.

One night covers the square, the Ship Inn corner and a Newton Pool bird-hide loop. Two nights fit if you walk Craster via Dunstanburgh on the longer National Trust coastal path. A week has nowhere to spend it unless you treat the links as a walking week from one tiny hub. Dining is thin beyond the square pub; do not invent a second high street.

Park on the hill above the village and walk the steep road down; National Trust pages flag that slope. From Alnwick the parish sits about eight miles northwest. Once in, you walk the beach, the all-ability track to Newton Pool hides, or the sand toward the castle ruins.
