One long day covers the tower, the beach, and a walk toward Rimigliano if the heat allows. Two summer nights fit. A third day only earns its keep if you add Populonia and the Gulf of Baratti, or the boat from Piombino to Elba. Do not invent a week of San Vincenzo as a city break.

The station is classified Silver by RFI: three passenger tracks, underpass, lifts, regional ticket machines. Track 1 toward Pisa and Florence, track 2 toward Campiglia Marittima, Grosseto and Rome. The old goods yard is gone. In summer the comune has used station rooms as a tourist desk. There is no metro. The Via Aurelia, now SS 1, still runs the coast as it did when the Romans put a road through. A car helps for Baratti and the hinterland. You do not need one to cross the town.

The beach, the train, a pause between inland Italy and the island boat: yes. A substitute for Florence, a party town, a winter office: no.
