Kipling's line about goblin work still clings to the palace in tourism copy. The Golden Triangle circuit (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) does not require this stop. That is the honest pitch.

One full day from Kota covers the climb to Garh Palace, a look at Taragarh if the heat allows, and Raniji ki Baori. Two nights in town fit the ground: one for the fort and the old lanes, one for Jait Sagar, Sukh Mahal, and a second baori. A third day only earns its keep if you add the drive toward Ramgarh Vishdhari or treat Bundi as a pause on a Kota to Chittorgarh road. A week only in town is too much town.

The old city is walkable and steep. Most of Bundi is accessible on foot. The auto-rickshaw is the public mode. There is no metro and no tram. The station sits off the old core; count a separate rickshaw fare to reach it. You do not need a car inside the lanes. You do need one, or a hired driver, if you string lakes and the sanctuary.

Families who want a flat promenade and a swimming pool street should look at Jaipur or Udaipur. Heat, monkeys on the fort path, and a thin choice of rooms after dark are the practical problems, not crime in the tourist sense. Solo travel works if you can read a Hindi or English sign and ignore the touts near the fort gate. Couples who want a palace evening will find a hillside and a lake, not a restaurant strip.

The fort, the stepwells, the painted palace: yes. A Golden Triangle week at city-break speed, nightlife, a laptop month: no.
