Litochoro Guide

Litochoro is the Pieria gateway town on the eastern foothills of Mount Olympus, seat of the Dio-Olympos municipality, with the Thermaic Gulf beaches a few kilometres east. Visit Greece frames traditional streets, hikers heading into Olympus National Park, and swimming day trips to the coast. The 2021 census counted 6,615 people in the town (6,889 in the municipal unit). This guide is that trailhead overnight: Enipeas Gorge from Myloi, town base, and a beach afternoon. It is not a Meteora monastery circuit. It is not a Nafplio city break. It is not a full Mytikas summit how-to.

One night covers the town and a short gorge start or a Plaka/Gritsa swim. Two nights fit the classic Enipeas crossing toward Prionia (Visit Greece: about 12 km, 6-8 hours, moderate, not circular) with a road return of about 18 km. A week only works if you treat Litochoro as an Olympus walking base with refuge nights higher up, not as a resort calendar in town alone. Food sits in tavernas around the centre and beach strips; do not invent a named restaurant street.

KTEL buses link Thessaloniki (about 1.5 hours per Visit Greece), Katerini and Athens (often via Katerini). The railway stop sits about 6.5 km east by the sea; taxi into town. From Myloi at about 400 m just outside Litochoro, the E4 enters the gorge. Peak season for higher Olympus routes is May to October; for Mytikas, Visit Greece expects experience, proper gear and usually a certified guide.
